Phinney Design Group provided architectural services for the renovation of the historic Spa Little Theater at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), helping to reimagine this treasured Saratoga Springs venue for a new generation of performers and audiences.

Located within Saratoga Spa State Park, the Spa Little Theater has long served as an intimate setting for theater, dance, music, and community programming. The renovation focused on enhancing the functionality, accessibility, and overall experience of the historic venue while respecting the architectural character that makes the theater an important part of Saratoga’s cultural landscape.

PDG’s design addressed key improvements to accessibility, circulation, performer support spaces, and audience amenities, creating a more welcoming and functional environment throughout the building. Thoughtful interventions improve how patrons move through and experience the theater while providing performers and staff with upgraded spaces that better support contemporary productions and programming.

Working within the context of an existing historic building required a careful balance between preservation and modernization. New improvements were designed to complement the theater’s established character while integrating the infrastructure and amenities expected of a modern performing arts venue.

The renewed Spa Little Theater strengthens SPAC’s ability to offer diverse, year-round cultural programming beyond its renowned summer season. By preserving the intimacy and historic identity of the theater while improving accessibility, comfort, and functionality, the project helps ensure that this important Saratoga Springs venue will continue to serve artists, audiences, and the community for years to come.
