Phinney Design Group undertook the thoughtful renovation of a historic home on Union Avenue in Saratoga Springs, blending modern functionality with the timeless charm of the property. The project began with a meticulous assessment of the home’s existing character, ensuring all updates honored its architectural heritage.

To improve the flow of the residence, strategic adjustments were made to the layout, creating more cohesive transitions between spaces while maintaining the integrity of original features such as trim profiles, doors, and hardwood floors. The kitchen and bathrooms, which required modernization, were reimagined in collaboration with CMC Design Studio, whose interior expertise helped bring warmth, elegance, and livability to the redesigned spaces. Together, the teams introduced contemporary design elements and materials that harmonize with the home’s historic aesthetic. High-quality finishes, custom cabinetry, and timeless fixtures were carefully selected to ensure these updates feel both fresh and enduring.

Phinney Design Group also restored key historic features of the home, revitalizing original moldings and other architectural details that contribute to the property’s unique character. The team employed a preservation-minded approach, blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative techniques to bring these elements back to life. Complementing this architectural restoration, CMC Design Studio’s attention to interior details—from lighting and furniture placement to layered textures and finishes—ensured that every space feels cohesive, comfortable, and true to the spirit of the home.

A new cohesive porch and mudroom addition were seamlessly integrated into the design, respecting the historic proportions and materials of the original structure. These additions provide practical, functional spaces for modern living while enhancing the home’s curb appeal. The porch, with its detailed woodwork and inviting design, offers a nod to Saratoga Springs’ storied architectural legacy, while the mudroom delivers essential utility without sacrificing elegance.
