Northern Point Friends Lake, NY

The owners of this house came to Phinney Design Group looking to cultivate a beautiful piece of property that has been in their family for generations. Overlooking Friends Lake from the North, we worked closely with the family to design an accessible ski and summer retreat in the middle of the Adirondacks. The house is nestled into the hillside, allowing the screen porch and outdoor fire pit area to act as an extension of the Great Room. Hardscaped trails lead along natural stone steps down to the lake. The covered connection between the lower living spaces and the garage greets you as you approach the house, framing lake views and providing a protected area to kick off your skis or unload for the day.

All of the windows along the southern façade lend themselves to large amounts of natural daylight and views of Friends Lake from almost every room. Native materials were specified to complement the natural environment, including utilizing large stone boulders found on site, locally sourced granite for the entry piers and fireplace in the Great Room, and Eastern White cedar shake siding. This project was designed to adapt to the natural topography found on the site and be absorbed into the landscape of the Adirondacks.
