Mountaintop View Lake George, NY

The land our clients approached us with offered an expansive view of the surrounding area, high in the hills overlooking the narrows of Lake George. The existing house on the property was outdated in both layout and aesthetic, but its footprint was ample and well situated into the edge of the hill. As the design progressed, it was determined that the previous faux-log wooden structure and framing would be removed, while the existing foundation was preserved.
The expansive and dramatic views of the surrounding landscape inspired our initial programming. Since it was important to give each main living space the best possible views and maintain the adjacencies the client desired between the living room, kitchen, and dining room, the existing footprint was extended parallel to the lake.
Through this expansion, a new formal dining room was minimally suspended between the façade and the new wood burning fireplace. The large floor to ceiling windows create a dramatic design statement and allow for the forest to disappear underneath a panoramic view of the property.
The project is a timeless mixture of Adirondack and modern aesthetic, incorporating classic finishes with the clean, angular lines of glass and metal. Locally sourced materials can be found throughout the home, including “American Granite” from Champlain Stone, bluestone, Douglas fir timbers, exterior wood soffits and trim.
