Four- Season Warming Hut at John Boyd Thacher State Park

Phinney Design Group recently completed a 1,250 square foot warming hut, nestled in the hop-field area of John Boyd Thacher State Park in Voorheesville, New York. The Warming Hut provides a year-round retreat for hikers, cross-country skiers, and parkgoers enjoying the park’s breathtaking landscapes. Completed in time for Winter 2024, this one-story warming hut is designed to harmonize with Thacher Park’s natural beauty. Locally quarried granite, sustainable Douglas-Fir timbers and energy efficient SIP roof panels compliment the traditional Adirondack architecture and the surrounding State Park’s vernacular.

The interior is designed to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere with Douglas-Fir shiplap walls, comfortable lighting, and a central granite wood-burning fireplace. Whether serving as a gathering space for cross-country skiers on a snowy afternoon or a resting point for hikers on crisp autumn mornings, the space is designed to enhance the visitor experience. The new Warming Hut offers a welcoming place to recharge before continuing adventures in one of New York’s most treasured natural landscapes.
