Dreaming of a modernized arts and crafts camp, the owners employed Phinney Design Group to design a custom home exemplifying craftsmanship central to this artistic movement. The contemporary, open floor plan is characterized by extensive use of careful level changes to create distinct areas within the space. Grey stained windows evocative of the natural bark and driftwood add an ethereal quality to the house, an updated example to the darker woodwork of historic arts and crafts interiors. Custom designed and locally crafted white oak millwork can be found throughout the home, including three staircases, built-in bookcases, barrel-vaulted foyer, bar, and kitchen cabinets.

The design incorporates multiple fireplaces blending the intimate features of an inglenook with the rugged nature of an historic Adirondack Camp. Influencing much of the overall design, the landscape gently slopes from the road to the rocky shoreline of Lake George, New York. The bucolic site provided ample inspiration for the building, by drawing from the grey tree bark, dark blue water, winter ice cover, long vistas down the lake and its mountainous surroundings.
