Phinney Design Group is providing architectural services for the renovation and enhancement of the Caldwell–Lake George Library, an important civic and community resource in the heart of Lake George Village.

The project will preserve the library’s historic architectural character while improving accessibility, functionality, and the overall visitor experience. The design celebrates the building’s traditional civic presence, maintaining its classical proportions and detailing while introducing thoughtful improvements that will allow the library to better serve residents and visitors for years to come.

A renewed entrance will create a more welcoming and clearly defined arrival. Classical columns, large windows, and carefully detailed exterior finishes will reinforce the building’s historic identity and strengthen its presence within the village streetscape. Site improvements will provide accessible parking and a more direct, barrier-free approach to the building, helping ensure that the library is welcoming to users of all ages and abilities.

Large windows will bring abundant natural light into the interior while maintaining the scale and character of the original architecture. Interior improvements will support the evolving role of the modern library, creating comfortable and flexible spaces for reading, learning, community programs, and gathering.

The renovation will balance historic preservation with contemporary accessibility and community needs, allowing the Caldwell–Lake George Library to continue evolving while maintaining the architectural qualities that make it a recognizable part of Lake George.

Once complete, the renewed library will provide a more accessible, functional, and inviting community destination while preserving an important piece of the village’s civic character for future generations.
