Phinney Design Group is proud to announce that Turtle Rose, a custom Lake George residence, has won the Best New Custom Home Over 3,500 Square Feet award at the 2025 Capital Region Builders & Remodelers Association (CRBRA) Best in Building Awards.
The Best in Building Awards recognize CRBRA members for excellence and innovation across residential building, remodeling, design, and marketing. Entries are judged anonymously by impartial industry experts from outside the region, ensuring an objective evaluation of each project’s merits.
“We’re honored to receive this recognition from the Capital Region Builders Association,” said Brennan Drake, Principal and Partner at Phinney Design Group. “Turtle Rose represents what’s possible when high-performance design and craftsmanship are paired with a deep respect for the environment. From the beginning, our goal was to create a home that would feel timeless, support multigenerational living, and harmonize with the Adirondack landscape that surrounds it.”
A Multigenerational Retreat on Lake George
Located on the shores of Lake George, Turtle Rose was designed as a multigenerational retreat that balances sustainability, comfort, and design. The recently completed project embodies Phinney Design Group’s commitment to creating architecture that honors its natural surroundings while serving the unique needs of each client.
The property includes the main residence along with:
- Tennis pavilion and court
- Boathouse with roof deck
- Detached garage
- Pool with cabana
Natural and local materials were selected throughout to echo the textures and tones of the Adirondacks, creating a home that feels rooted in its environment.
Sustainable Design at Its Core
Turtle Rose showcases our commitment to environmentally responsible construction through several key features:
- Geothermal Heating and Cooling: An efficient system that dramatically reduces the home’s carbon footprint while providing year-round comfort.
- Advanced Stormwater Management: A carefully planned system that protects the surrounding landscape by directing runoff responsibly.
- High-Performance Building Envelope: Meticulously engineered to maintain year-round comfort with lower energy use.
A Collaborative Design Journey
“The collaborative process behind Turtle Rose was a true design journey,” said AnnBritt Newey, Director of Interior Design at Phinney Design Group. “From custom furniture tailored to the family’s lifestyle to factory tours that helped us select lighting and finishes with intention, every detail was thoughtfully chosen to reflect the client’s vision, creating spaces that feel personal, functional, and deeply connected to the site.”
Built to Endure for Generations
“This project reflects our long-standing belief that great architecture should be both beautiful and responsible,” said Mike Phinney, Principal Architect and Founder of Phinney Design Group. “Turtle Rose demonstrates how thoughtful design, technical rigor, and collaboration can come together to create a home that honors its setting and is built to endure for generations.”
