PDG Announces the start of Peerless Pool Bathhouse Renovations

Phinney Design Group, a multi-disciplinary Architecture, Interior Design and Construction Management firm located in Saratoga Springs, is pleased to announce the start of construction on a $2.9 million renovation project at the Peerless Pool Bathhouse in the Saratoga State Park.  The original bathhouse will be torn down and replaced with a smaller, sustainable and modern facility.  The fresh, contemporary design will meet the current social expectations of what the public expects from a bathing facility, updating the 1960s design to meet the needs of modern families.

Originally opened back in 1962, the complex attracts nearly 31,000 visitors each summer.  The Peerless Pool is one of two public pools in the Saratoga State Park.  The pool itself will stay intact, while the bathhouses, concessions and grounds will be renovated.  The current bathhouse will be replaced with a smaller version, allowing for more green space throughout the compound and also easier navigation for guests.  The plan features include solar panels on the roof, a passive cooling system, and an overall design that is easier to maintain.

Additional changes include larger changing areas and bathrooms, a new entrance and courtyard complete with benches, bike racks, updated landscaping and lighting.  The new structure will be energy efficient and accessible.

In order to try and complete construction before next Memorial Day weekend, the Peerless Pool closed early this season to begin renovations.  Plans call for the complete removal of the current 55 year-old bathhouse – down to the concrete, and to start constructing the new bathhouse from a freshly poured foundation.  The goal is to have the foundation set and the building framed before snow hits the region this winter.

This project is funded by Governor Cuomo’s NY Parks 2020 initiative.  The architect of record is the Phinney Design Group.
